For international students there are three options for accommodation, two on-campus and one off-campus. On-campus accommodation is available in International Residence Center located within the campus and the International Village that is located across the street from the URC Extension Center. Both are very cost effective housing solutions for international students. Rooms are provided with double or triple occupancy with a limited number of single occupancy rooms. All the rooms are fully furnished and air conditioned with a host of facilities like high speed Internet, telephone with free unlimited calls, cable TV and private bathrooms. There are other facilities available inside the campus that includes laundry facilities, computer lab, billiards room, gym, basketball court and sports field.
International students also have the option of American Family Homestay Program. There are plenty of American families in Riverside that offer double occupancy rooms on rent. They also provide meals and transportation to and from the campus. International students have a great option of learning about the American culture, life and customs through this accommodation option and they further enhance their English skills when they converse with these families.
English language programs: ESL programs are offered throughout the year and they are designed for beginners as well as advanced users. International students have the option of enrolling for three-week short courses to year-long courses. The ESL programs include IEP or Intensive English Programs, EIB or English for International Business, IOF or Improving Oral Fluency, CAC or Conversation and American Culture and SEP or Summer English Programs.
Certificate & Diploma Programs: The Academic Year Certificate Programs (ACYP) and the Postgraduate Certificate & Diploma Programs are designed for advance speakers of English who want to enhance their skills in specialized areas and expand their professional experience.
Students can participate in a 9-month long AYCP in one of the following fields: Business & Management: Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Project Management and Science & Technology: Forensic Investigation and Geospatial Technology.
Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma Programs include: ThePostgraduate Certificate in Management (1-Session), The Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM)(3-Sessions/1-Academic Year), and The Postgraduate Diploma in Hospitality Management (PGDHM) (3-Sessions/1-Academic Year). The 3-Sessions long programs also include an Internship opportunity as part of the program requirements and students who successfully complete the diploma programs may be eligible to participate in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program that allows for 12 months of temporary paid employment in the United States.
At UC-Riverside, eligible international students can also participate in a TESOL or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages Certificate Program and in a Three-Week Intensive TESOL Methodologies Workshop.
Apart from these programs there is the choice of OPT or Optional Practical Training that one can apply for after completing a full academic year of nine months at UCR in a postgraduate or professional program that leads to a diploma or certificate. PGDM and PGDHM students are allowed to go through internships with an American company as part of these programs.
